was one of only 22 Community and Social Service agencies selected
for its Big Idea.
The Big Idea: Providing a platform for First
Amendment rights and promoting transparency in government
by broadcasting city council and other public meetings are
pretty major factors in a democracy—and quite a community
jewel. In 2012, AMP will showcase another local jewel: the
Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. AMP’s upcoming Curated
Community Television Channel will feature “Your Sanctuary,”
a weekly series based on treasures, pleasures, wonders and
resources the sanctuary offers Monterey County. AMP will produce
at least two segments on the historical cultural influences
of the Esalen Indians and the Pacific Island cultures on the
sanctuary and adjoining lands. Some 10,000 years ago, these
cultures taught respect, protection and preservation of the
ocean, which is the theme of “Your Sanctuary.” AMP is seeking
funding to produce these segments.
Make Your Voice Heard: “AMP helped me discover that anyone
can be a producer, and when you see your program on the screen
or the Internet, that's a very powerful feeling of personal
achievement.”
