MPC STRING ENSEMBLE & amp2 SERVE UP SWEET SOUNDS FOR HOLIDAY DINNERS

Renowned Oboe Soloist Joins Conductor Dally In Christmas and New Years Special - Monterey Peninsula College’s 30-piece string orchestra spreads joy with Debussy String Quartet and more!

AMP2, the region’s only Curated Community Television Channel is broadcasting beautiful music for the Holidays, thanks to an ongoing collaboration with Monterey Peninsula College.

Conductor Dave Dally leads the MPC String Ensemble through a delightful rendition of Debussy’s String Quartet. Also featured is celebrated oboe soloist Peter Lemberg, performing the Handel Concerto Grosso #8, “Gabriel’s Oboe”, and the Bach Oboe & Violin Concerto with violinist David Dally.

The Holiday Special will be broadcast on Christmas Day at 7pm and New Years Day at 7pm locally on Comcast 27, regionally on AT&T 99, and streamed at ampmedia.org. In addition, the performance will be repeated several times during the Holidays and available later in January, 2012 for Video on Demand.

The Monterey Peninsula College String Ensemble was founded by conductor and violinist David Dally in 1989 to provide an opportunity for local string players to get together and play chamber music and string orchestra music. It became an MPC class in the Fall of 1990. It has evolved to also include winds in Spring semester and play symphonic music.

AMP2’s “Your Sanctuary” chosen by Office of National Marine Sanctuaries to carry news and video from American Samoa to Thunder Bay.

What began as a local Public Television documentary series about the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary has widened its scope and gained traction for national distribution. During a recent journey to Monterey, Dan Basta, Director, Offices of National Marine Sanctuaries, visited Access Monterey Peninsula (AMP & AMP2) in their Garden Road Studios. After a screening of upcoming episodes, Director Basta informed the Station’s staff that their AMP2 anchor series has all the right elements and distribution platforms to serve as the electronic media program for the National Sanctuary system.

“We’ve always had high hopes for national distribution of Your Sanctuary,” said AMP Executive Director Paul Congo, “and this gives us a major boost in that direction”.

Your Sanctuary is a collaborative project between the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and AMP. Shooting began in August of 2011 and a Pilot Program was released on October 31st. Regular episodes will begin airing in late December on AMP2, the Station’s Curated Community Television Channel which is broadcast locally on Comcast 27, regionally on AT&T 99, and streamed at ampmedia.org . The Your Sanctuary program will also be available for Video on Demand at that website and via a new multi-platform mobile application for smart phones and tablets.

“This news really fills our sails with some fantastic resources,” remarked Executive Producer Stephen Ellzey, “underwater video of the Florida Keys, whale rescue images from Hawaii, celebrity guests from the world of Ocean Environmentalism and Research…it’s a wonderful gift for the Holidays!”
